That crappy “text-speak”

It’s now official, this is one of my greatest pet peeve. People who are typing, chatting, or posting updates using “text-speak”.

But if you’re like using your mobile phone to update your facebook or twitter then I’d understand. But if you’re using a computer, or a laptop then shame on you!

I once chatted with my high school friend, and I didn’t understand most of the things that he typed so I asked him what he was using to chat with me. He said that he was using his laptop, then I asked him why he was typing like he was texting and I jokingly added if his laptop’s keyboard was like a Mobile’s keypad. He said that his laptop was small, and he couldn’t type well. But still…

I had this friend in college (I think), who got carried away and used “text-speak” to answer some of the questions on his blue book during an exam. Good thing he changed it right away.

The truth is, I think that people who are typing, chatting or (as for my college friend) writing using “text-speak” are lazy and stupid! It’s not that I’m bragging that I could type without looking on the keyboard (alright! I’m bragging so sue me!). It’s just that unlike SMS, you are not limited to 160 characters when chatting (of course with twitter you’re limited to 140 characters to prevent you from telling a story). The computer keyboard isn’t way different from the cellular keypad that when you press 3 and you want to use the letter “E” you need to press it three times, with the computer keyboard one press and voila! the Letter “E”.

Whenever I see people posting updates or chat with people who are using the infamous “text-speak”, I usually end up laughing not because it’s funny, but because I think that person is stupid.

Now calling out the people who loves using “text-speak”…
